worries

My dad called me the other day and tipped me off to this story.

"Two students at the University of Wisconsin - Stout have been arrested in the death of a fellow student they allegedly attacked as he biked on Main St. after an altercation early Saturday morning.

The victim, Bradley Simon, flew over the handle bars and hit his head on a concrete wall along Main St., according to the report from the Menomonie Police Department. He died Thursday afternoon, one of two people to die while on a bicycle in the state this week."

full story here

This sort of thing worries me so much. It's one thing to make a stupid mistake and crash and get hurt, its another to have someone else make a stupid decision that ends up with you getting killed. Especially some lame hockey players getting drunk and agro and deciding that they can pick a fight.

It is more upsetting that I highly doubt this is an isolated incident, unfortunately this time someone just ended up getting killed.

Really depressing. What's the lesson? Keep a cool head, ride safe, wear a helmet, hope for the best.

wet wet wet

In case you haven't noticed it rained a bit on Wednesday and Thursday.

That didn't stop a bunch of use from going out and having an awesome time Thursday night and I think my shoes are finally drying out. this is the only camera I had and it doesn't take crap for pictures so this is what you get.

In other news if you didn't know Interbike is going on right now and there is all kinds of coverage all over the Internet of all the awesome products coming out. Check out Urban Velo or just about any other bike blog in the world for info.

And for a little more light hearted fun Andy tipped me off to this and I think it warrants a post.

I've got an SD card full of rediculous pictures from last Thursdays ride, which was one of the most out of control rides in recent memory. I think between the amount of flat tubes, skidded tires, and broken helmets we probabaly handed off a decent amount of buisness to Bike and Sport. Problem is the SD card is aparently "unreadable" so I am unable to share the splendor with you. Which is especially unfortunate because it also has a bunch of old pictures from one Chris Z's last ride(pictures with guns and cheesecake!). So why bother posting if it's just about a bunch of stuff that you can't see anyway? Good question. Just watch these I guess.

for the books

I'll admit that I was kind of reluctant to go ride on Thursday. I was up since 6 and definitely feeling sleepy. But then I was reminded of just how awesome and fun Thursday night is. Lots of goofing around, riding, some beer, some vending machines, and some pizza made for an awesome night.

The rest of the weekend was equally as awesome. It was Jen's birthday and much fun was had. Saturday was the Clear Water Beer Fest and it was one of the best times I've had drinking in my life. If you ever want to try some of the best beers in the country for 4 hours and all for free after admission I definitely recommend it. It's not every day you find yourself with an empty glass trying to figure out which 12% Bourbon Barrel Stout you want to drink.

This week promises to be a bit more disciplined as school really gets going, but that just gives me more to look forward to for the weekend.

how it should be

I had one of those really hectic weekends that reminded me of how awesome life should be all the time. Even with work dashed in and what feels like a cold coming on I am really happy and kind of relieved that it is so crummy out side because it gives me a chance to be lazy for a few days and bum around. Can't wait for this week to be over, or at least for Thursday to come...

last night

Last night was my dads birthday and I spent the evening hours eating dinner with him my sister and my grandma. Suffice it to say by the end of the night I was full and slow and had little ambition to go ride. Plus I got a new toy and needed to set it up. My bad, I'll buy beer next week. While you wait check out the new issue of Urban Velo. Free of any idiosyncratic ads this issue!

school

School is back in session. That means it is time for me to spend way to much time slacking off and wasting time on the internet. My first diversion of the year is jp weigle's flickr page. There is way to much good stuff on there. Originally tipped off by Hipster Nascar
